Norm Mineta Passes at 90 After Lifetime of Notable Achievements and Leading Efforts To Empower AAPIs

Former US Transportation Secretary, US Commerce Secretary, and Congressman Norman Yoshio Mineta passed on May 3, 2022. He also served as Mayor of San Jose from 1971 to 1975. As Transportation Secretary, he oversaw the establishment of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) in the aftermath of the September 11th attacks.
He was instrumental in the passage of redress for Japanese Americans unjustly interned during WWII and helped numerous AAPIs seek and get elected to office at the local, state and federal levels.
