GARDEN GROVE, CA. The strong momentum continues for Councilwoman Kim Bernice Nguyen. After releasing back-to-back major endorsements from CHC BOLD PAC and Congresswoman Sara Jacobs, Ms. Nguyen's congressional campaign today announced another huge endorsement from Hawaii Congresswoman Jill Tokuda.

This support comes after the campaign also released endorsements from the LA/OC Building and Construction Trades Council, State Senator Tom Umberg, Former State Assemblyman Tom Daly, Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris, Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva, Assemblyman Josh Lowenthal, United Association Local 250, and OC Supervisor Katrina Foley all within the last 3 months. Upon endorsing Ms. Nguyen, Rep. Tokuda stated: "More than ever we need new leaders like Kim Bernice Nguyen in Washington who truly represent their communities and are focused on delivering for working families on urgent issues like lowering costs and raising wages, protecting a woman's right to choose, and safeguarding our democracy. Kim is the right choice for CA-45 to flip this district and help us retake the House in 2024!"

Since announcing her congressional campaign, Kim Bernice Nguyen has amassed nearly 50 federal, state, county, local, education, and labor endorsements, showing that she is the Democrat who can win the primary and ultimately defeat MAGA Republican Michelle Steel.

The daughter of a Vietnamese refugee and a Mexican immigrant, Kim Bernice Nguyen was the first in her family to graduate high school and college. At just 25, she won a historic election as the youngest person and first Latina ever elected to the Garden Grove City Council.

A leader on women’s issues, Ms. Nguyen has stood up to harassment and sought equality and justice throughout Southern California and has fought to ensure that immigrants, like her parents, have the dignity and opportunity to succeed in our communities. A homegrown leader, Ms. Nguyen attended Clinton-Mendenhall Elementary, Doig Intermediate, and Santiago High School.

As a healthcare expert, she will bring a much-needed public health background to Congress, having formerly worked for CalOptima and now as a Program Manager for a large health plan.

CA-45 is one of the top pickup opportunities for Democrats in 2024. It is a Biden +6 district with a Democratic registration advantage of 5.6%. Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) and Latino voters are a majority of the district at 51.6% – with Vietnamese voters making up the largest block of AAPI voters at 58.4%. If elected, Ms. Nguyen would be the first person of Vietnamese descent ever elected to Congress in California and only the third in US history. She would also be the first Asian-Latina in Congress and one of a growing group of millennials seeking to make change on our most crucial issues. Congresswoman Jill Tokuda represents Hawaii's 2nd Congressional District. Formerly a member of the Hawaii State Senate, she was elected in 2022 and is currently serving her first term in the US House of Representatives. Congresswoman Tokuda sits on the House Agricultural and House Armed Services Committee on Oversight and Accountability, Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic. She was elected by her colleagues as the Freshman Representative to the Congressional Asian American Pacific Caucus and is the Vice Chair of Communications for the Congressional Progressive Caucus.
